This is a rare piece with an interesting story. The French wording on the plate translates to: Freedom, God Bless You, Calvados General Council. The design is based on the French “Jubilee of Liberty” medal which was awarded on 6th June 1994 by the French government to US veterans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings by the allied forces. The medal was the first to be awarded to American servicemen for their participation in the Battle of Normandy.
