Vintage JIM NICHOLS 1974 Pigeon Forge Tennessee Studio Art Pottery Canister Jar This canister was masterfully created by a potter named Jim Nichols, in 1974. Word has it, Mr Nichols was a master potter that worked at an art studio in Pigeon Forge Tennessee in the 1970s, before starting his own business in North Carolina in the 1980s. It is made of an earthen clay terra-cotta and is unglazed. It has a matte sandy textured coating that was dipped in to give it a dripped look. It is free of damage of any sort. It measures approximately 6" inches tall with lid on, and 5" inches wide.

This is a Wellhouse Pottery stoneware chutney jar with a fitted lid and spoon notch. It features a hand-decorated rustic design with a green glaze over terracotta clay and carved vertical striping around the base. The word “Chutney” is hand-incised on the front. The jar stands approximately 3.5 inches tall. Approximately 4.5 inches to the top of the lid. The inside is fully glazed for easy cleaning, and the base carries the Wellhouse Pottery backstamp. Condition is good overall, with some light surface marks on the body from use and a visible hairline crack on the lid near the spoon notch (shown clearly in photos). The glaze has a natural crackle effect typical of handmade stoneware pieces. A lovely addition to a rustic or country-style kitchen.
