    Description: This original old antique print / plate originates from the scarse French edition of 'Description de touts les Pays-Bas ...', by L. Guicciardini, published by Jan Janszn., Arnhem and Petrus van der Keere, Amsterdam in 1613. Artists and Engravers: The author of this work: Lodovico Guicciardini (1521-1589): Italian merchant from aristocratic descent. He was born in Florence, a son of Jacopo Guicciardini. His uncle was the famous author Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540) who wrote 'La historia di Italia'. The Guicciardini family established a presence in Antwerp and in 1541 Lodovico arrived to work with his uncle. At the same time they functioned as informents for the Medici's back home. He stayed until his death.

    Description: This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: 'Les guerres de Nassau...', by G. Baudartius / G. Baudart, published in Amsterdam by M. Colin de Thovoyon in 1616. This important work on the first five decades of the 80 Years War raging in the Netherlands, Belgium and the western part of Germany from 1568-1648, was written from a Contra-Remonstrant point of view. Many of the plates are after 'Geschichtsblatter' by Frans Hogenberg and after plates from J. J. Orlers' work. New plates were added as well. Artists and Engravers: Willem Baudartius (1565-1640) was born in Deinse, Flanders, Belgium, had already fled the Inquisition for England in 1565, together with his family.

    Description: Includes a description sheet (in Dutch) and a dispersion map for this plant in the Netherlands. One of the plates from the mammoth publication titled 'Flora Batava, of Afbeelding en beschrijving van Nederlandsche Gewassen', published from 1800-1934 by several Dutch publishers, including Loosjes and Nijhoff). In total the 461 periodic issues contained 2240 prints. The initial publisher was J.C. Sepp. The long publication period reflects the change in the technique of its illustrations. Hand coloured copper engravings were initially used, followed by hand coloured lithographs, and finally chromolithography was introduced. Initially the texts and editing work were done by Jan Kops, although several other would follow during the 134-year span in which this work was published.

    Description: This plate originates from the very scarse: 'La galerie agreable du monde (...). Tome Troisieme d'Afrique.', published by P. van der Aa, Leyden, c. 1725. This famous work was published in 66 parts and is the biggest print / map book ever published. Van der Aa incorporated plates by other publishers such as Blaeu, Visscher, de Wit, meurs, Halma, Mortier, Allard in this work and often added broad decorative borders. Probably the costliest and complete universal geographic work ever produced. It is said that only 100 copies were printed. Ref: Koeman Aa9; Phillips 2780 note. This plate is a re-freshed and partially re-engraved and altered plate first published in 'Naukeurige Beschrijvingen der Afrikaensche gewesten (...).', and 'Naukeurige beschrijvinge der Afrikaensche eylanden (...).', by Olfert Dapper (1639 - 1689).
