Se necessario, viene effettuato un confronto. A seconda del modello del dispositivo, prendiamo in considerazione altri aspetti per potervi offrire un dispositivo di lunga durata. La rimozione della polvere, la pulizia dell'unità laser, l'ingrassaggio della meccanica e anche la sostituzione dell'unità laser/meccanica laser sono attività che possono essere svolte nell'ambito della manutenzione. Quando si tratta di dispositivi per supporti di memorizzazione ottici, l'unità laser viene ovviamente tratta.
