Description: This print/map originates from: "Atlas Historique..." (Historic Atlas...), Published by Zacharie Chatelain, Amsterdam, 1732. Published in seven volumes between 1705 and 1720. This 2nd edition (Tome II) has been published in 1732. The maps were accompanied by information on cosmography, geography, history, genealogy, heraldry, and costumes of the world. The maps in the Atlas Historique were mainly based on those of the French cartographer, Guillaume De L'Isle, but were presented by Chatelain in an encyclopaedic form. Description: Published ca. 1700. Possibly from the extremely rare 'Galerie Agreable du Monde', published by Pieter van der Aa in Leiden, The Netherlands, 1729. Artists and Engravers: Pieter van der Aa was born 1659 in Leyden, Holland. He started his own book publishing business when he was twenty-three. Within fifty years in his business, he published a huge amount of highly decorative maps and atlases. His "Nouvel Atlas" was reissued by Covens & Mortier. He died 1733 in Leyden.
