While Piaget’s expertise in skeletonization dates back to 1948, the Altiplano collection specifically became the dedicated home for the Maison's ultra-thin creations in 1998. This particular reference belongs to the manual-wind lineage of the Altiplano, distinct from the automatic versions that later broke world records for thinness. The technical heart is the in-house Caliber 838S, a manual-wind ultra-thin skeleton movement. The movement itself is only 2.7mm thick. It features hand-beveled bridges and plates decorated with a sunray guilloché motif radiating from the center. You can clearly see the large mainspring barrel at the 6 o'clock position and the small seconds sub-dial positioned uniquely at 10 o'clock.
