This is an original press photo. Warring against the Austrians, Napoleon III invaded Italy in 1859 and defeated them in the Battle of Solferino. Napoleon had entered Italy at the request of King Victor Emmanuel of Sardinia, who had sought to free Italy from Austrian subjugation and unify it under his crown.
