An African Birthing Chair - made from African hardwood. It is made from two pieces of wood which interlock to make this a strong and solid chair. The overall height is 27 inches and the width of the carved back is 17 inches. The seat is 11 inches wide. The back is beautifully carved with a warthog at the bottom, a rhinocerous in the middle and an elephant at the top - I have seen a few of these chairs but this one is the most interesting and with the most beautifully made back I have seen. If you look at the last photo a split in the wood can be seen, but it makes no difference to the strength of the chair and can scarcely be seen.
