Galium aparine commonly known as Cleavers is an herbaceous annual plant from the Rubiaceae family of flowering plants. Cleavers (Galium aparine) is an herb found around the world in Europe, North America, Asia, Greenland, and Australia. It is described as an edible weed or a wildflower. Cleavers is a popular herbal remedy. Its fruits/seeds can be dried and roasted to make a hot beverage similar to coffee. Its chopped leaves and stem can be made into soups and stews. The tender shoots can be boiled and buttered as a vegetable. For making an infusion tea, cleavers is best infused into cold (or room temperature) water. This is not to say that preparing cleavers as a hot tea wouldn’t be beneficial, but that the cold infusion would perhaps be more beneficial.
