A vintage bottle 'a canne' with polychrome rods in blue, green, and transparent glass. Manufactured in 1989 by Venini, Venice. The Elixir series was designed by Gio Ponti in 1949. Signed 'venini 89' on the bottom. Venini model number 4493. An exemplary mid-century modern design of unbroken elegance. Gio Ponti (1891-1979) enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano in 1914. After graduating in 1921, Ponti founded an architectural firm. During this time, Ponti joined the neoclassical Novecento movement and advocated for a revival of art and culture. In 1928, Ponti founded Domus. In search of new forms of expression for Italian modernism, Ponti distanced himself from the Novecento movement and attempted to reconcile art and industry.
