The effect of the filter is achieved mainly though the multi-layer coatings on the surface of the filter. This is based on the physics of light and the nature of the coatings. There is light incidence angle dependence in the transmission factor because overlayer is thick, so this filter doesn't suit use by a wide-angle lens.
