MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Set the switch on the side of the device to AUDIO when setting up the sensitivity dial. You want to make sure that you are ONLY hearing that sound when the dog is barking. If you are hearing the sound when the dog is NOT barking, then the dial is too HIGH.
