The various journals of Irishman John Work, who rose through the ranks to become an officer of the Hudsons Bay Company and for a brief time assisted in the governance of Vancouver Island, are located among the archives of the Provincial Government of British Columbia. This uncommon 1945 publication, number X of those issued by the Provincial Archives, is an annoted copy of Works journal detailing a fur-buying trip from Vancouver to the American Northwest, including commerce with the Blackfeet and Nez Perce tribes, covering the period from January - October 1835. It is in highly collectible condition and an important early description of exploration, fur trade, and the Native American culture of the era, and has been reprinted in many different editions since this first.
