He was born in Odessa. He graduated from Kiev Institute of Art, V.Kasiyan;I.Pleshchynsky;O. Pashchenko were his teachers.In 1950 Gennadiy was arrested (with brother, composer Valeriy Polevoy). He was accused of the formation of anti-Soviet organization.
