This is the safety recall clip that was issued from Casablanca ceiling fans back in the 1990s for the canopy mount that will stop the fan from falling out of the holder in the ceiling. It reduces the hole opening so the black ball does not slip through the canopy. The canopy would separate and allow your fan to drop out if you did not have this part installed. It is very easy to install. It just slips underneath the ball to reduce the whole opening in the canopy.
