The process we use to produce our laser etched signs is this: The laser removes only the very thin layer of black paint, leaving a very detailed view of the Beautiful brushed aluminum underneath. A glossy waterproof UV protected clear-coat finish is then applied leaving a very beautiful, very smooth glossy surface that will keep the brushed aluminum from oxidizing.
