Ravello was founded in the 5th century as a shelter place against the barbarian invasions which marked the end of the Western Roman Empire. The Duomo, which faces the main square (Piazza Vescovado), is the spiritual and social center of Ravello.Built in the 11th century with support from the Rufolo family, the Duomo is a combination of Baroque and Romanesque styles.
