From this correct 'set' point, the lever can now move the tone arm out to the correct starting point at the beginning of the record. When the wee pad shown in Pic 2 wears, it'll stop doing its job. Note the angle this lever is sitting in your player - take photos, and replicate this angle when replacing it.
