This thesis sheds light on the unique dynamics of optoelectronic devices based on semiconductor quantum-dots. The potential of quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers for novel applications such as simultaneous multi-state amplification, ultra-wide wavelength conversion, and coherent pulse shaping is investigated.
