These boxes were made in the Vizagapatam region of India for the British colonial market from the 18th century onwards. 19th Century Anglo-Indian, tortoiseshell, ivory and bone trinket box, the bone pierced to resemble lacework or tracery, the lid with a palm tree centrepiece and foliate designs to the bone lacework, supported on four carved bone paw and claw feet and having a blue velvet lining and mirror.
